Outings and Trips

Assalamualaikum, everyone!

I am very sorry for the long, long, long pause without any posts. Yup. Last time I wrote here was on 14th of October. Well, to make it up to you, I will write a new post today (which I'm currently writing) about my outings and trips after my major exams and the American Mathematics Olympiad.

National Museum

First trip after the exams was going to the National Museum of Malaysia. It was a fun and tiring experience, wandering ins, outs, ups and downs of the museum while trying to finish the quiz given to every group of three to four. We all competed to find which group was the fastest to answer the test, although speed was not counted. All the groups searched for the answers in the four big galleries stuffed with things over time in Malaysia. Pictures and models filled the galleries with some kind of creepy aura. I had some trouble to deal with my group mates since they always get the creeps around the plastic skeletons and stuff like that.

After everyone finished up their worksheet, the teacher allowed us to either buy souvenirs from the souvenir shop, or explore the most poisonous and venomous creatures in Malaysia in the mini museum of poisonous and venomous animals. I chose to join some groups of friends to the mini museum, but some small number of others went to the souvenir shop.

The mini museum was small but was also very interesting. We took pictures at the main entrance all together. As we stepped inside, a painted polystyrene Medusa greeted us with an evil grin, the snakes on her head joining her in the fun. Her golden snake tail was fluorescent in the bright light. In the room with her, Inside glass containers stuck behind the wall around her, were her trusty minions, as well as companions. The group of poisonous snakes was curled comfortably in their own containers, ignoring the visitors pointing or staring at him, or even tapping at the glass container. Shed skin was left all over the place in the containers.

After a fine look at the snakes, I went to an opening which was the entrance that led me to another room. There were many other animals that were poisonous there. Some were very cute. I saw a fat little toad trying to jump with difficulty, and I thought it looked so cute because it was hard to jump on that soft surface with a big body. There were also poisonous underwater creatures like stingrays, eels and lots more. Centipedes, millipedes, spiders and scorpions were also included in the same third room.

I finished exploring the mini museum and decided to take a quick look at thing sold in the souvenir shop. The price for pretty much everything was quite expensive, so I joined some friends to buy some ice cream at a small restaurant nearby. After getting the teacher's approval, I bought a mint-flavored ice cream with chocolate chips in a cone. A single scoop was enough to keep my tummy patient till lunch. I licked the ice cream while waiting with my friends while waiting for the others.

The teachers finally gathered everyone when it was time for lunch and decided to eat at an open fort. But then, dark clouds covered the rays of sunshine and the blue skies. Seeing the situation, the teachers led us back inside the bus, postponing lunch until we got back to school.

Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM)

The second trip was at Forest Research Institute Malaysia, or FRIM for short. The reason for us to go there, according to my science teacher, was to discover the many types of plants and animals and to add knowledge of what they are all used for. First arriving there, we were divided into three large groups, led by three.., I don't know, forest researchers, I guess?

The famous Crown Shyness View
We all assembled near a big pond which has been put three large dragon fishes, swimming about leisurely. There were also cute little tortoises swimming together in the pond. My group headed straight to the forest first while the other groups went somewhere else (could be the gallery). We heard explanations about the animals and plants from the group leader as we explore the forest. The group leader told us to listen to every explanation as they would be the answers for the questions in the treasure hunt later. We also had to remember our ways so that we wouldn't get lost when we get in the second time on our own. Good thing it's not that deep inside the forest.

After the first trip into the forest, we headed back to the pond while waiting for lunch. My friends and I walked along the entrance park while staring into the pond to see any movements of the dragon fishes. We saw one at the edge of the pond and another one swimming at the middle. Their scales were black with red painted on their bellies and the tip of their tails. The group leader told us that they eat half a chicken every day and were trained not to eat humans at FRIM.

Before lunch, our group went to the gallery to see FRIM's successfully discovered species. The plants and animals were labelled and had been explained what they had been used for. From all the tiring hike in the forest, I sat on a couch with some of my friends and waited for lunch to be announced. It wasn't lunch yet because we had to wait for the other groups finish their hike.

After lunch and prayer, we were divided into smaller groups of 4-6 for the treasure hunt. Technically, there weren't any treasures we were instructed to find, but we had to answer all 11 questions given on a worksheet. My group name was the Sakura Girls and had four members. The rules were simple. Without any help, we had to find our way to the plant or animal related to a question and answer it, depends on the question. We should not return to the previous question or plant or else we would be disqualified.

We competed with this one group the most and answered all questions accordingly, not leaving a single question blank without an answer. One of the members in our group had brought her camera and a good memory that helped to find our way, despite using the map given, to the next plant. Some questions also required us to find a dried leaf of the plant. At last, we won 3rd place after submitting our worksheet to one of the workers.

The teacher actually planned a wonderful swim, or bath, in the river, but it was already time to go back to school. She said the river was far away in the depths of the forest, so we all boarded the bus and headed back to school.

Muzium Matawang Bank Negara Malaysia

The next adventure, and very recently, we visited Muzium Mata Wang, or, I don't know..Currency Museum? We learned all about money and other stuff like how to check if there's a counterfeit money in your pocket and the history of Malaysia currency.

We first went through a tunnel filled with Malaysian Ringgit totaling up to RM1,000,000! Then we visited the galleries. There were many large galleries, about two on the first two floors, and one big art gallery on the third floor. There was a children's museum (the one with the tunnel), a souvenir shop, a cafe and a mini theater on the ground floor. That's where we learn about the history of Malaysia currency and how to recognize counterfeit money.

We then explored the galleries full of economics and money and other stuff like that. We learned what had been imported from other countries into Malaysia and what is happening now in our country based on our economical status.

The art gallery was one of things there that I liked most. Despite not being able to touch the paintings, I could see that they expressed a lot of passion and inspiration. It was beautiful and relaxing to stand there among the paintings and sculptures.

Again, there was a plan to have lunch at Taman Tasik Perdana, but the weather didn't seem at all approving. So we had lunch at school again, instead. Before that, we bought some souvenirs such as magazines and notebooks and lots of other stuff, and also bought food from the cafe. The food and drinks bought included croissants, sandwiches, latte, mocha, waffle, orange juice and many more.

Well, the trips and outings doesn't end here. Coming up next is Beryl's Chocolate Factory and, insyaAllah, we will visit that factory tomorrow.

Stay tuned, assalamualaikum.
