Sports Month
Assalamualaikum everyone!
A few days ago, there was a Sports Day event following a special month. Today I will talk about..
Sports Month
February. February is Sports Month at Sri Ayesha and everyone was divided into houses. There are four houses; red, yellow, green and blue. Everyone must enter games, either novelty, netball (girls), football (boys), field and lots of others to choose from.
Kind of hard though. I'm in the blue house team and we were initially second in rank after the red team, then we fell fourth place, yellow seizing the lead. Well, I still had fun, even though we lost most games so far, and some seniors had a misunderstanding a few weeks ago.
All the house teams have problems, and the only same problem they have is the team cheer. Some people come up with their own cheer, but some parodied songs and edited some words to be motivational. We used short cheers before we start a game.
Cheering is purposeful to motivate the players, get your hopes up and celebrating when you win. Mostly it's for the players so that they know that there are still many people supporting them. The first thought that came to mind when the seniors told us to come up with a cheer is actually the Royal Prep Academy song 'Huzzah!' from the show Sofia the First (I know, I'm childish). It's very inspiring, really. I'd really hoped someone would know that song, but it turns out they don't and I don't like copying it.
That night, I searched for motivational cheers and found some that are very inspiring, adding them to my list to show the seniors.
Well, none of my ideas work and I'm okay with that.
Those are my experience. Now I'm going to express my opinions about sportsmanship, cheers and what it takes to be the best.
Sports. When I hear that word, a ball and a field are the first things that popped into my mind. Sports is a great way to build stronger relationships with our friends and stay fit and healthy. I'm not good at sports, but I don't dislike them. A sports competition is completely different than your likes and hobbies. You need to have great spirit to win, and a great strategy, great teammates and positive thoughts. Think you can, know you can, say you can!
Team. Several people wearing medals and holding a trophy sprung into mind at the thought of that word. Everyone has different views. What does a team means to you? To me, a team is a community in which every member plays a role in order to achieve their goal. A team works as a living body, and they need a leader to guide them straight to their destiny. A team is a family. They work together and play together. I found a line for a cheer that says, 'Together we stand and together we fall. All for one and one for all!' A team sticks together no matter what, and they know that they're stronger together than apart, like what another saying goes, 'Our team has spirit, our team has heart. Together we're solid, so we'll never part.' My cousin was in the green team and she practiced her team cheer every night. I liked the lyrics, 'And we know when we stand, hand in hand, we can win this too.' Even though they ended up fourth place, they won first place in marching and team cheer!
Spirit. One of the things the yellow team had most. A very high spirit to win also brings you to your goal. Another cheer I found was, 'Hands on your hips, a smile on your lips, spirit in your heart, we're ready to start!' Spirit is important. One of my house team teachers has a very high spirit, and drove us to keep moving forward, no matter what setbacks are in our way, even if we stay the last place.
Win. What does win means to you? Is winning just gaining more points and receive gold medals and trophies? No. Winning is more than that. Winning is doing (not trying) your best and knowing that you already did what you can. Winning a medal and a giant humongous trophy is not important. The important thing is staying true to the team, supporting the team with a high spirit, and staying positive. Loyalty, teamwork, spirit, trust and never give up!
All the words that have something to do with sportsmanship will need a whole book, so these are just the majors.
Advice: Leaders of the team should lead to the right way; no cheating, sabotaging, etc. Plus, do not play harsh. Yes, I did observe some players playing harshly, determined to win no matter what. Teachers and referees should also be fair. If you become one of the judges for a particular sport or novelty match, don't support for your team. Stay quiet, pretend you're not from any team, and give points according to the rules given or the criteria needed.
Observation: This isn't mine. It's actually my cousin's friend's mother's observation. It's very interesting. She had been in all four house teams in her life, plus one more, orange. She said:
Red: Determined to win no matter what
Yellow: Has a very high spirit
Green: Creative, but disliked by most
Blue: Creative, but doesn't show it
Orange: New people, but very good
Guess who won this year for Sports events? My house, Blue Team!!
Till next time, Assalamualaikum!
