School Holidays: Italy! (Part V)

We arrived back in Milan when it was already dark. We took the Metro to Brenta to buy groceries at Carrefour. After buying those things, we walked to a little place called Chicken Cottage. It's Halal. My mother said it tastes like KFC. So we requested for takeaway for all the food and took a bus back to Zambala. We arrived at Zambala, all tired and weary and sleepy. We ate the Chicken Cottage food first. It was so delicious! It kind of  did  taste like KFC. Then we performed Maghrib and Isya' prayer, and I started this blog post.... The next day, I woke up to perform Fajr prayer, then continued this blog. My mother had to go to work. In th morning my father made Nasi Lemak for breakfast, but I didn't eat yet. My father and Yusuf ate first. WE also checked opened the balcony doors and played outside for a while. It must've been four or five degrees, because water vapor escaped our mouths when we breathe. After a few hours, Dad and Yusuf had gone back to sleep w...

The next day, we rushed and hurried for breakfast, had some time to play on the balcony, my mother cooking food we'll bring to our trip, packing our clothes, pampers and bottles, taking some croissants from the lobby for a trip to..... Switzerland!  Yup, you guessed it. We went to the Swiss Alps! The journey began with us taking a Metro to Centrale FS, aka Milano Centrale Train Station, where there are trains to further destinations. We went on the train to Tirano, a two-hour trip halfway to Switzerland. We boarded the train, and exited. Dogs. My mother insisted for another coach since two dogs were in front of us. So we entered another coach, and I unwrapped the croissants, and munched. I don't know why but I eat more than usual here than in Malaysia. We didn't do much in the train. We chatted, enjoyed the view, ate, slept and chased Yusuf in the corridors. Five minutes. The duration between our arrival in Tirano and the departure of our next train going to S...

School Holidays: Italy! (Part III)

I woke up next morning by he sound of my parents' voices waking me up to perform Fajr prayer. It was peaceful and quiet at that time of the morning. All four of us were awake, so we opened the balcony door for the first time, wearing jackets, socks, and shoes to keep warm, playing in the cold breeze. Yusuf kept pointing to the cranes since he wasn't awake to see it the day before. He was stubborn and didn't want to wear his winter coat. We took some pictures outside, too. My mother was inside making breakfast. I can't remember everything that we ate, but what I do remember is eating Nasi Lemak ala Milan, homemade. It was very delicious. Oh yes! I remembered that we ate coconut Lempeng before that. Mmm! Then we got ready to go, packing some things to bring with us, and took an underground train to Duomo. My mother said that Duomo is like a park, but when we arrived, it was more than that. It's actually a huge old cathedral in the middle of a big open square...

School Holidays: Italy! (Part II)

At last, the moment we've been waiting for, the arrival in Italy! It wasn't really pleasant. My father had a splitting headache and couldn't take care of Yusuf, so I did it while waiting an hour or so for my mother. All my brother did was wandering about in the airport, curiously staring at thing that spark his interest. He stopped at times to eat or take pictures with my dad, but he just wouldn't stay put. A few minutes later, I showed him a picture of himself on my dad's phone. He laughed at it, joined by another voice. He was startled and stared at the source of the voice. It was my mother. Yusuf stared as if trying to remember something and was slow to succeed. My mother led us to a train which brought us to Milano Centrale. There, we took another train that brought us to Lodi TIBB, nearest station to whee my mother is temporarily staying. My father used a baby carrier my mom borrowed from a friend in Malaysia to carry Yusuf more conveniently. He d...

School Holidays: Italy! (Part I)

I sigh as I stare beyond the dark night sky lit by the lights of the calm and quiet city. The cool breeze hit my face gently, the air of early spring approaching very soon. What's the temp, four? Five degrees Celsius? I don't know. I sweep myself inside, leaving the balcony door open for the cold air to enter, since I don't know how to turn on the air-conditioner. On the table lay my mother's laptop I borrow to write my blog. About this new place and surroundings. What, I didn't tell you? Assalamualaikum everyone and welcome to....(drumroll) Italy!  Yes, I am now currently in Milan, Italy, about 14 hours away from home. Reason? a) My mother is working there for a year, b) It's the school holidays, and c) We want to travel again. It had been, what, three years? Yup, three years since I went overseas. Since I travel to another country. The last one was Australia. Remember that post? That was in 2013! Wow, it had been a very long time now. Anyway,...
